Brent Donald Lawrence Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Brent Donald Lawrence, 43, of Verona, passed away on Friday August 31, 2018 at Northwestern Memorial in Chicago. Born May 28, 1975 in Spring Valley, he was the son of Donald and Colleen (Lampe) Lawrence. Brent was born with a congenital heart condition where his heart was physically in the chest cavity backwards. He had partial corrective surgery at 13 months and in 2011, had a hole patched in his heart muscle and dual ICD. After his ICD fired five times in 2016, he was placed on the heart transplant list. In February of 2017, his health had declined drastically and it was decided that he needed a mechanical pump to run his heart (LVAD). This past summer brought complications that asked his body to fight more. On August 19, 2018, we received a call that a heart had become available to Brent. After accepting this, he had surgery on August 20, 2018. This heart never started beating and Brent lived on life support for nine days, when a second heart became available. The second transplant was a success, however, Brent’s body had endured so much and fought so hard, with no fight left in him, his body could not physically go on, and he was able to stop fighting and went to rest on that mountain. Brent was raised in Arlington, IL and attended high school in La Moille, IL He participated in boy scouts and played baseball and football as he was able to. After high school, he pursued a career in trucking and drove for MCT trucking and later Leake Trucking and Excavating in Verona, IL. He was a member of the Verona Fire Department as a first responder. He was an active member of Park Street Congregational Church in Mazon, IL and served on various committees. As his health allowed, he was an active volunteer in FRB (Food Resource Bank) through church and loved helping out with this organization. One of his recent favorite hobbies included woodworking. He enjoyed working on projects for the house, including building a staircase and the inside trim in the house. He always had a project going. His outdoor love was going to the farm of Jerry and Dixie Stitt in Verona, IL. He enjoyed feeding the cows and various farming activities. Brent married Colleen in April of 2000. They had two daughters, Katie and Natalie. The girls were the highlight of his life and he actively participated in their lives as his health allowed. He taught them how to woodwork, how to maintain their vehicles, and how to live and enjoy life through all the hardships. He is survived by his parents; wife Colleen Michelle (Moss) Lawrence; daughters Katie and Natalie; brother Nick (Candee) Lawrence. A visitation for Brent will be held on Saturday September 8, 2018 from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm at U.C. Davis-Callahan Funeral Home in Morris. A memorial service to celebrate Brent’s life will be held on Sunday September 9, 2018 at 4:30 pm at the Park Street Congregational Church in Mazon. Cremation rites will be accorded.
